Large Research Grants

UFAW Large Research Grants support scientific research projects to improve or advance the welfare of animals. Each year, a limited amount of money is available to support larger scientific research projects, applying for over £5,000 of funding. UFAW aims to encourage high quality research that is likely to lead to substantial improvements in animal welfare. UFAW seeks to promote both fundamental and applied research aimed at providing new insight into the subjective mental experiences of animals relevant to their welfare, understanding their needs and preferences, or more applied research aimed at developing practical solutions to animal welfare problems. UFAW is concerned with the welfare of farm, companion, laboratory, captive wild animals, and with free-living wild animals whose welfare is compromised by humans. Animal welfare must be the main focus; UFAW does not support projects focused on conservation or the improvement of livestock yield.
