Undergraduate Tuition Fee Grants

The Carnegie Trust's Undergraduate Tuition Fee Grants support individuals from low-income households in Scotland who are ineligible for tuition fee support from the Scottish Government. The grants cover tuition fees up to £1,820 per year for undergraduate degree courses at eligible Scottish institutions. The majority of students supported attended university or college previously but withdrew before completing their studies due to ill health, financial problems, or personal circumstances, or felt their chosen course was not the right fit. The program also assists students seeking asylum in the UK. The scheme is designed to help students who do not have the financial resources to attend university, with the median household income of award-holders being £10,000 per year. Approximately 250-300 awards are granted each year. Applicants must be ordinarily resident in Scotland with at least two years of secondary schooling or college education in Scotland, or demonstrate a substantial connection to Scotland. The program also includes exceptional provisions for second degree applicants who wish to reskill in fields identified as skills shortage areas for the Scottish economy, including medicine and health, social work, IT and computing, engineering and architecture, quantitative sciences, geosciences, biosciences, and cultural and creative studies.
