Funding Opportunities
School Partnership Bursaries
UK-German Connection offers school partnership bursaries to help keep connections between UK and German schools alive. The bursary provides £1,000 to support UK participants travelling to Germany for direct contact and collaborative engagement between young people in the UK and Germany. The funding is designed to support those who would not otherwise have the chance to take part in international exchange activities. The bursary can be used towards UK pupils' travel, accommodation, and subsistence costs (up to 20% can go towards teachers' costs), joint activities during the German partner school's visit to the UK, and running costs for virtual activities. The programme is open to primary schools, secondary schools, special educational needs (SEN) schools, and further education (FE) colleges in the UK who have an established partnership with a German school.
Instant Impact
The Instant Impact and Instant Impact Plus grants offer funding for joint thematic projects and exchange trips for young people between the UK and Germany. The Instant Impact grant supports first-time taster trips for groups of young people and group exchange trips to revive a school or youth partnership. The Instant Impact Plus grant is for exchanges based on joint thematic projects. The theme or topic of the visit can be flexible, but the visit must contribute to the young people's wider learning or skills development through collaboration, discussion and reflection, and be explored from a UK-German perspective. A language-learning element is welcomed but not compulsory. The visit must involve at least 5 young people (or at least 8 for Instant Impact Plus) and especially those who would not otherwise have the chance to take part. The majority of the time during the visit (minimum of 2 days not including travel, or 3 days for Instant Impact Plus) must be spent on joint activities with a high level of interaction between the young people from both countries.
Partnership Visit Fund
The Partnership Visit Fund supports staff planning visits to set up new or foster on-going partnerships between schools and youth groups in the UK and Germany. The grant is designed to help coordinators meet their partners, gain insight into their partner institution, discuss objectives and realities on both sides and plan future partnership activities between young people. The fund supports planning visits for new UK-German partnership activities, reviving or developing existing partnerships, and introducing new staff members into partnerships where the main coordinator has left or is no longer involved. The grant covers travel and transport, accommodation and subsistence, joint activities including excursions, costs for exchange partners to participate in joint activities, materials and room hire, visa costs, and virtual/digital activities.
