Funding Opportunities

Placement Bursary Initiative

The Placement Bursary Initiative is a non-means tested bursary funded by donations from Keele supporters, designed to support students completing placements during academic years 2025/26 and 2026/27, and up to August 2027. The bursary is available for both curricular and extra-curricular placements brokered by the University. Students undertaking a placement from any year can receive the bursary, which is paid in a single instalment. A brokered placement refers to an extra-curricular placement opportunity where the University has actively supported the process, including helping to design the job description, organizing interviews, facilitating discussions between the student and employer, and ensuring that both parties agree on the placement terms. The bursary is available for both paid and unpaid placements, though students from the Faculty of Health and those taking mandatory placements are ineligible. The amount received depends on placement duration: placements lasting 360-504 hours receive £200, while placements exceeding 504 hours receive £500.

Care Leavers' and Estranged Students' Bursary

This award offers a non-repayable bursary of £1000 per year to undergraduate and postgraduate taught students who have left the care of their local authority or are irreconcilably estranged from their families and meet the relevant eligibility criteria. In addition to the annual bursary, recipients receive an award of £500 upon graduation. This bursary will be awarded in addition to any other financial support or awards that students are entitled to from the University or their Local Authority. Students must have spent at least 13 weeks in care since the age of 14 and were in care on their 16th birthday, or were privately fostered until the age of 16 or were 'looked after' until they were subject to a Special Guardianship Order, or have been assessed as independent by Student Finance England or other local authority because they are estranged from their parents or guardian. This bursary can be combined with the Access & Success Fund and is awarded in the form of a cash bursary.

The Fee Difference Waiver UKRI-funded Studentship (International)

This is a Fee Difference Waiver for International Students on a UKRI (United Kingdom Research and Innovation) funded studentship at Keele University. The waiver supports international students who have been awarded funding by one of the Research Councils under UKRI for a PhD or a Masters and PhD programme.
