The Foundation leverages a national board of independent scientists to select the most exciting proposal and help fund young investigators, aiming to lead the charge in microbiome research by awarding an annual national grant. For 2026, the grant will be awarded to an investigator studying 'Harnessing the Gut Microbiome: Impacts on Health, Disease, Diagnosis and Therapeutics.' This grant may be applied to a new or an existing ongoing study. The grant is intended to be mainly an operational grant, not a salary grant, with indirect institutional costs allowed up to 10%. The Foundation's mission is to advance research and understanding of human microbiota, supporting early career researchers with seeding or bridging grants to help them initiate or continue projects and become independent investigators.
