BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Awards

The BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Awards recognize and reward world-class research and artistic creation, prizing contributions of singular impact for their originality and significance. These prestigious awards honor fundamental disciplinary or interdisciplinary advances across a broad expanse of the knowledge map of the 21st century. The awards are informed by the importance of basic knowledge as the core mechanism of scientific change and humanity's progress, while acknowledging the interdisciplinary nature of knowledge and the collaborative efforts of large research groups. The awards cover eight categories spanning basic sciences, biology and biomedicine, information and communication technologies, climate change and environmental sciences, economics, humanities, social sciences, and music and opera. Each award consists of 400,000 euros, a diploma, and a commemorative artwork. The nomination process is open and indirect, accepting nominations from scientific and cultural organizations, institutions, past Nobel Prize winners, and previous Frontiers Award laureates. The evaluation process involves support panels formed by leading experts and committees of acknowledged prestige who review and select winners based on the fundamental contributions made to their respective fields.
