The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Doctoral Scholarship is a unique program in Canada that goes far beyond financial assistance for PhD students. It is an opportunity for doctoral students to join a stimulating and transformative community whose common interest is to contribute to a better future for Canada and the world. Scholars are selected through a rigorous selection process lasting several months, chosen not only for their academic excellence, but also for their dedication and capacity to share and disseminate knowledge for the benefit of others. The scholarship supports cutting-edge research in areas that are fundamental to the advancement of Canada and Canadian society, strengthening Canada's role in the world and positioning Canadian universities at the top of international rankings. Scholars carry out basic research and work on fundamental research questions of interest to Canada and Canadian society, with a focus on the Foundation's four founding themes. Recipients have the opportunity to participate in several events organized by the Foundation, from conferences to leadership training and master classes. They can co-publish works with Fellows or Mentors, and participate in public policy seminars to test how their research can be implemented. The Foundation encourages public and community dialogue on major societal issues, acting as a catalyst for enriching conversations and creating spaces conducive to collective reflection. Scholars become part of a vibrant community of over 500 alumni whose professional achievements following the Scholarship serve as eloquent testimonies to the value of this outstanding recognition. The program provides experiential learning opportunities that enrich and complement the academic experience, with encouragement and support to learn or improve linguistic skills in both of Canada's official languages.
