BBQ+ Academic Fellowship

The Center for Black, Brown, and Queer Studies (BBQ+) offers an annual academic fellowship supported by the Mellon Foundation. This fellowship brings together a diverse group of underrepresented scholars from undergraduates to postgraduates working in critical race, Indigenous, postcolonial, and queer studies in a collaborative and supportive environment. The fellowship runs approximately mid-September through the end of April and is conducted fully virtually via Zoom. Fellows participate in weekly meetings (Fridays, 12-2pm ET) including Writing Clinics, Theory Clinics, Colloquia, and Fellows Circles. Fellows are assigned to cohorts by academic level and receive mentorship from experienced faculty advisors to develop research projects and prepare for professional careers. The program provides research stipends ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 based on academic level, along with opportunities for reimbursement of research and professionalization expenses. Fellows also gain access to a broader network of Senior Fellows and an intergenerational, interdisciplinary scholarly community.
