The Carter G. Woodson Institute is an interdisciplinary research center at the University of Virginia dedicated to advancing African American and African Studies. Over its 40-year history, the Institute has transformed the professoriate, trained the next generation of scholars through its pre-doctoral and post-doctoral fellowship programs, and educated the general public about issues of race, social justice, and inequality. The Institute also operates an undergraduate program offering majors and minors in African American and African Studies, as well as a graduate certificate program.
