About
The National Health Service Corps (NHSC) is a federal program operated by the Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA), part of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. For over 50 years, the NHSC has supported more than 18,000 primary care medical, dental, and behavioral health providers through scholarships and loan repayment programs, increasing access to quality health care in communities with significant health professional shortages. NHSC participants serve at more than 8,400 community health care centers, seeing nearly 18.9 million patients who receive care regardless of their ability to pay for services. The program includes more than 8,000 behavioral health providers who increase access to mental health and opioid use disorder treatment in underserved areas across the country.
