About this opportunity
The 1916 Bursary is a financial award to encourage the participation and success of students from sections of society that are significantly under-represented in higher education. The bursary is available to new entrant undergraduate students who meet financial, priority group, and college entry eligibility criteria. The program offers three tiers of funding: Tier 1 provides €5,000 per annum for 400 students for the duration of their undergraduate and postgraduate studies; Tier 2 provides €2,000 per annum for 200 students who meet the criteria but did not qualify for Tier 1, also renewable through postgraduate study; and Tier 3 provides a once-off payment of €1,500 for a limited number of students. Applicants must be new entrants pursuing an undergraduate course and progressing to higher education for the first time, have been resident in Ireland for three of the past five years, and be studying an approved full-time or part-time undergraduate course. Students already receiving a 1916 Bursary who complete their undergraduate studies are entitled to continue receiving their bursary for postgraduate study.
