About this opportunity
The A J A Waldock Scholarship was established in 2020 to provide financial assistance to students pursuing postgraduate studies in English and Creative Writing at the University of Sydney. The scholarship aims to support Master of English Studies or Master of Creative Writing students in the Department of English who are experiencing financial hardship. This scholarship is funded by the A.J.A Waldock Memorial Fund, which was established in 1956 to memorialise the late Professor Arthur John Alfred Waldock. The scholarship particularly welcomes applications from students facing various forms of disadvantage, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, those from low socio-economic backgrounds, students with carer responsibilities, those with disabilities or long-term medical conditions, sole parents, students from regional or remote areas, refugees, LGBTIQ+ identifying students, and first-in-family students. Recipients are selected based on academic merit and a personal statement demonstrating their commitment to studying English or Creative Writing and how their financial hardship impacts their studies.
