About this opportunity
The A428 Community Fund provides grants of up to £15,000 for community initiatives in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire near the A428 scheme. The total fund value is £250,000, offering small-scale investments to support local non-profit organisations. The fund is available throughout construction with multiple submission rounds starting November 2023, and all projects must be completed by January 2027.
The fund seeks to support projects aligned with three priority areas: local economy, skills and employment (inspiring future careers in STEM and supporting employment opportunities); supporting and connecting communities (addressing community safety, health and wellbeing, promoting cycling and walking, arts and heritage projects); and enhancing the environment (improving the natural environment around the A428 scheme).
Priority is given to projects demonstrating lasting legacy beyond short-lived events. The fund cannot be used for revenue costs, though associated core costs directly linked to project delivery are allowed with detailed justification. The fund is routinely oversubscribed, with approximately £300,000 in applications competing for £50,000 per round. Applications are accepted through biannual deadlines in February and August.
