About This Opportunity

The Abbeyfield Carlisle Society Community First Fund provides grants to charitable, not-for-profit groups whose projects benefit communities within the former local authorities of Allerdale, Carlisle and Eden in Cumbria, England. The Fund supports activity that meets two main priorities based on community needs: Improving Lives and Strengthening Communities. Under Improving Lives, the fund supports reducing poverty (including financial stability, food/fuel security, and housing), reaching potential (empowering people through education and skills), improving health (mental health, wellbeing, and inclusion), and tackling social inequality. Under Strengthening Communities, the fund nurtures sense of place (building inclusive, safe, and connected communities) and acts on climate change through local sustainability and resilience projects. Examples of supported projects include grow and cook workshops, arts and culture programmes in local communities, improvement of community facilities, and community support and development. Grants will normally be £5,000 or less for one year. The fund is managed by Cumbria Community Foundation and was established by Abbeyfield Carlisle Society Limited.
