About This Opportunity

The Ada Lovelace Excellence Scholarship is an excellence scholarship from Electronics and Computer Science at the University of Southampton designed to create a diverse group of excellent scholars who can help redefine the discipline and become future leaders in digital technology. Named after Ada Lovelace, the first computer programmer, this scholarship aims to foster a diverse new generation of people who will change perceptions of digital technology and lead the field in new directions. As excellence scholars, recipients will enjoy being part of the scholar's network within ECS, with additional social activities and access to mentoring from academic and career staff. The scholarship helps enhance students' careers even before they start their undergraduate journey, positioning them alongside a small group of elite students and alumni who have been recognised as potential leaders in their fields. The scholarship is conditional on successful applicants meeting the requirements of their offer and enrolling on an Electronics and Computer Science undergraduate degree at Southampton. The decision is made by a panel of ECS academics based on the applicant's response to a registration question asking how they would use digital technology to bring a positive benefit to their local community, in 500 words or less. This scholarship particularly encourages applications from underrepresented groups in STEM, especially women, following Ada Lovelace's legacy as a pioneering female in computing. Recipients gain financial support, recognition, mentorship opportunities, and access to an exclusive network of scholars within the Electronics and Computer Science department.
