About This Opportunity

The Advocacy Education Scholarship provides financial support for a school nurse to participate in an advocacy education program. The scholarship was originally named The NASN Advocacy Education Award in honor of Sally Williams, NASN's first President (1970-71), who worked tirelessly to establish the Department of Nursing within the National Education Association and bring school nurses together with a common voice on legislative issues. The scholarship provides up to $1,500 in financial support, distributed in two installments: 50% at the annual conference and the remaining 50% upon completion of the advocacy education program and submission of an advocacy action plan. Recipients also receive complimentary registration to NASN's annual conference during the year the scholarship is awarded. Applicants must submit a 500-word statement indicating their interest in advocacy for school nursing, with a plan that may have national, state, or local focus. The scholarship must be used for advocacy education completed within one year of receiving the award. Recipients are required to submit proof of attendance at the advocacy education program and an advocacy action plan for a project of their choosing to promote the practice of school nursing.
