About this opportunity
The Agricultural History Society offers research grants for members to advance the society's mission to encourage and promote scholarship in the history of agriculture and rural life. This grant program, which started in 2021 and was expanded in 2025, is the result of the Centennial Campaign (Seed Money) that marked the 100th anniversary of the AHS. The society annually awards eight grants of $1,500 USD each across different career categories to support scholars in creating the future of the discipline. The awards support research, dissemination, public outreach, and exhibition projects related to agricultural and rural history. Award recipients are required to give Agricultural History journal first right of refusal for article-length manuscripts and must write a brief online essay or research update blog post within eighteen months of receiving funds. Applications are evaluated based on the applicant's CV, project narrative, and budget by a committee consisting of the Executive Committee and additional members as deemed appropriate.
