AHRC Doctoral Landscape Award PhD Scholarships for research in Arts and Humanities

University of Sussex Original Source

About This Opportunity

The University of Sussex offers five AHRC-funded PhD studentships via its new Doctoral Landscape Award. These studentships are available across Media, Arts and Humanities PhD programmes commencing in September 2026. AHRC DLA postgraduate researchers conduct independent research projects achievable in 3.5 years and undertake a funded 3-month placement project which can be completed flexibly (part-time or in several blocks). Students receive a scholarship for 3.75 years for a PhD, including the placement project, and join a regional hub providing innovative training and development opportunities. Scholarships cover UK PhD tuition fees, a stipend at UK Research Council rates (currently £20,780 per annum) plus some research and training costs including conferences, participant costs, overseas fieldwork, language training, and placement costs. The Scholarship does not cover relocation, visa, or NHS surcharge costs. Two of the five awards are Stuart Hall Foundation Scholarships designated for Black British applicants or British People from Ethnic Minority Backgrounds.
