About this opportunity
The Albert R. & Nellie D. Spikes Scholarship was established by Evelyn Lathram and her husband in memory of her grandparents, Albert R. Spikes and Nellie D. Spikes. Albert R. Spikes had a distinguished career as a teacher, principal, superintendent, and Arizona state senator, serving as a passionate advocate for education. He was instrumental in building educational infrastructure including the current high school and gymnasium in Bowie. His wife, Nellie, was a dedicated teacher in both Bowie and San Simon. This merit-based scholarship honors their legacy of commitment to education and supports graduating high school seniors from the Bowie community who are pursuing post-secondary education. The scholarship is renewable and can be used for 2-year, 4-year, or vocational programs. Evelyn Lathram, a graduate of Bowie schools herself, established this program to help students from the same community that provided her with the strong educational foundation that prepared her to excel in her post-secondary studies and throughout her career.
