About this opportunity
The Aleksander Varga Memorial Bursary was established to commemorate the life of Aleksander Varga, an ANU Alumnus who graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Engineering in 2015 and was tragically killed in a motor vehicle accident on 7 May, 2021. Aleks was proud of his upbringing in regional Australia and was known for his willingness to help others, his strong work ethic, and his tenacity as an 'all-rounder' amongst his family and peers.
The objective of the Award is to assist students from similar backgrounds to study engineering at the ANU College of Systems and Society. The bursary seeks to support students who demonstrate the same hard-working, 'all-rounder' qualities and approach to life that Aleksander embodied. Preference is given to applicants from regional and rural backgrounds, with consideration for equity and financial need.
The award provides financial assistance to continuing domestic students enrolled in at least their third year of the Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Engineering (Research and Development) programs, either as single or flexible double degrees. Recipients must demonstrate a commitment to contribute to and participate in their community, strive to work hard academically, and hold all-rounder qualities and approach to university life.
