About this opportunity
The Allan J. MacEachen Trust Scholarship honors the Honourable Allan J. MacEachen (1921-2017), who dedicated his life to serving the people of Cape Breton and Canada. Born in Inverness, Cape Breton, and the son of a coal miner, Mr. MacEachen evolved from humble beginnings to become one of Canada's greatest parliamentarians. This scholarship reflects his powerful commitment to self-betterment through hard work and giving back to his community. The scholarship is available to graduating students from eligible Cape Breton high schools who are first-generation university students demonstrating financial need and academic performance. Students must be nominated by their school principal or scholarship committee, with up to one scholarship available per eligible school. Recipients must be accepted at an accredited Nova Scotia university. The scholarship embodies Mr. MacEachen's legacy of supporting access to education for students from humble backgrounds.
