About this opportunity

The Alvin V. Palmer Scholarship Fund provides college and technical school scholarships for current and former residents of Greene County, Georgia. Established as a memorial to Alvin V. Palmer, who despite being unable to pursue formal education himself, had a lifelong interest in supporting educational activities for young people. The scholarship is designed to support educational pursuits of students from Mr. Palmer's boyhood home of Greene County. Eligible applicants include current and former residents of Greene County, Georgia, and those who attended or graduated from high school in that county. Students must be enrolled full-time at an accredited two or four-year college, or a degree-granting technical or vocational school. Students who have begun their post-secondary education must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher. Selection is based on scholastic merit, personal character, financial need, and potential to succeed as demonstrated through grades, evidence of having overcome adversity, and participation in school, community, or religious organizations. Preference is given to prior recipients who request renewal. Prior recipients are eligible to renew the award each subsequent year for up to four years if they maintain eligibility criteria and complete required follow-ups.
