About this opportunity
The Alwaez Hasan and Rashida Nazarali Scholarship in Ethnomusicology is awarded to a full-time undergraduate or graduate student with superior academic achievement (minimum GPA equivalent to 3.5). The scholarship supports students pursuing ethnomusicology studies at the University of Alberta.
Undergraduate student recipients must be entering any year of study for a Bachelor of Music or a Bachelor of Arts with a specialization in ethnomusicology. Graduate student recipients must be registered in a MA or PhD program within the research area of ethnomusicology. Master's students are eligible to hold the award during the first or second year of their program, while doctoral students are eligible up to and including the fifth year of their program.
Selection is based on academic standing, with preference given to students studying music in the area of Muslim traditions and cultures. The scholarship was established through endowed funds in memory of Hasan Nazarali by his family, friends, and colleagues.
