About this opportunity
The American Opera Society of Chicago offers six annual scholarship awards to support advanced students of classical music pursuing professional careers. The scholarships range from $5,000 to $10,000 and are available to students of voice, piano, strings, and other solo instruments. Winners must live and study within 150 miles of Chicago. The awards have been offered since the organization's founding in 1924, supporting the development of young classical musicians.
Applicants must be U.S. citizens enrolled in a degree, certificate, diploma, or performance program with potential for professional careers. The scholarship program requires a 10-minute audition of diversified repertoire performed from memory, demonstrating technique, style, language command (for voice), interpretation, and stage presence. Award winners are presented in concert in Chicago where they receive their awards.
The six awards include: The AOSC Best Vocal Artist Award ($10,000) for voice; The AOSC Award ($7,000) open to all performance areas; The AOSC Award ($5,000) given by Carl and Rhonda Buss, open to all areas; The AOSC Eileen Deneen Award ($5,000) for voice; The AOSC Arthur J. and Glenna B. Collins Award ($5,000) open to all areas; and The AOSC Eleanor Pearce Sherwin Award ($5,000) open to all areas.
