About this opportunity
The Andrew J. Laughlin Memorial Scholarship was established in 2010 by Trina Laughlin and Dennis Laughlin in memory of their son, Andrew J. Laughlin, who died in an automobile accident in December 2007. Andrew had planned to pursue his master's degree at the UB School of Social Work beginning in fall 2008. This scholarship honors his memory and the values he embodied throughout his life.
The scholarship is awarded to graduate students enrolled in the MSW Program through the Advanced Standing Program in the School of Social Work at the University at Buffalo. Recipients must demonstrate adherence to the values, policies, and traditions of the NASW Code of Ethics. Andrew is remembered as a compassionate and determined young man who was deeply committed to helping others and working on behalf of disenfranchised people.
Applicants are evaluated based on how they epitomize Andrew's character traits, including compassion, sense of humor, service-mindedness, and determination. The scholarship recognizes students who demonstrate exceptional character and commitment to the social work profession, reflecting Andrew's dedication to giving back to the community and his investment in every aspect of his life with exceptional determination.
