About this opportunity
The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Stellenbosch University, in partnership with the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, offers a limited number of full-time scholarships for Masters (full thesis) candidates. Scholarships are available in all disciplines within the Faculty but are restricted to research topics that fall within one of three specific themes: African Cultural Studies, The Anthropocene and Ecocriticism, or Identity, Gender and Queer Studies. The scholarship provides comprehensive financial support over 18 months to two years, including a stipend of R170,000 and additional support for writing retreats, conference attendance, and publication costs. Applicants must have obtained a first-class distinction (75%+) in their Honours degree, be under 30 years of age at the time of application, and secure supervisory capacity confirmation from their intended department. The program aims to support emerging scholars in critical humanities research areas aligned with the foundation's mission.
