About this opportunity
The Appen Inclusive AI Scholarship in Linguistics is an undergraduate scholarship established in 2022 from a donation by Appen to support students undertaking studies in Linguistics within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Sydney. The scholarship is valued at $8,000 per annum and is tenable for up to 5 years for full-time students, or $4,000 per annum for up to 10 years for part-time students.
The scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic merit. If applicants are of equal merit, preference is given to applicants who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, are female and/or gender-diverse, or are culturally and linguistically diverse. Recipients must maintain a minimum Semester Average Mark (SAM) of 75 each semester to continue receiving the scholarship.
Applicants must have an unconditional offer of admission or be currently enrolled full-time in an undergraduate degree within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Sydney and must undertake a major in Linguistics. The scholarship amount is paid in two equal instalments after the census date of each semester.

Review process
Awarded on the basis of academic merit by the Chair of Linguistics in consultation with one or more academics in the Discipline of Linguistics. Preference given to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander applicants, female and/or gender-diverse applicants, or culturally and linguistically diverse applicants if applicants are of equal merit.
