About this opportunity
The Applied Science & Applied Research Fund supports locally based scientific studies that directly benefit the Island of Jersey. Funded by the Channel Islands Lottery, this grant program helps fill gaps in existing knowledge or uses current scientific knowledge to achieve practical or useful outcomes. The fund supports applied science or applied research in fields including engineering, biology, ecology, physics, chemistry, and mathematics, provided that the funds are used locally or for the direct benefit of Jersey, including education from which local residents may benefit.
Grants are awarded for projects, studies, and initiatives undertaken within Jersey or which benefit Jersey residents. Applications may include funding for postgraduate qualifications, surveys, studies, and development of locally based courses as part of organizational projects. Priority areas include studies concerning native flora or fauna to improve management or species status, development of new technologies or methodologies, and studies recommended by multilateral environmental agreements to which Jersey is a signatory.
The maximum grant size is ยฃ50,000 per applicant per financial year, with multi-year grants being considered. Applicants must clearly demonstrate the positive impact their project or study will have for the Island of Jersey. Grant recipients are required to report on how funds were spent and the extent to which outcomes were achieved. Funding must typically be spent within one calendar year of award.
