Arbeidsstipend for visuelle kunstnere (Work Grant for Visual Artists) is offered by Finnmark County in Norway to strengthen artists' ability to prioritize artistic work and develop within their artistic field. The grant provides time and space for artists to acquire new competencies, develop new projects, and further develop their artistry. The grant is awarded for two years at 150,000 NOK per year (300,000 NOK total). Applicants must be professionally active artists in visual arts, crafts, or photography with their artistic activity as their main occupation and documented public dissemination of their work. Eligible artists must have completed at least a bachelor's level education in the arts or membership in a professional organization, and must be resident and active in Finnmark County during the grant period. The grant can be used for artistic work, including specific artistic projects, professional development, and other costs directly related to creative activity. Parts of the grant can also be used for study trips or short residencies. The grant cannot be used for starting a business or financing studies normally funded through the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund.

Review process

Applications are evaluated by a grant panel that makes recommendations based on artistic quality and activity, as well as compliance with grant guidelines. The panel considers professional qualifications and competence, artistic objectives and future potential, originality and innovation capacity, and application quality. Final awards are made by the Main Committee for Competence (HUK) based on the panel's recommendations.
