About This Opportunity

The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers unique research opportunities to highly-talented scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects. This specific opportunity focuses on using Artificial Intelligence to maximize science return from planetary missions. Planetary missions have returned enormous amounts of surface imagery during past decades, most of which remains unused due to inability to manually search for scientifically relevant features. This fellowship seeks candidates to explore cutting edge AI/ML methods to automate science discovery and focus attention in planetary image datasets. The research will combine traditional planetary science and recent advances in computer science to maximize science return of past space exploration missions. The science targets selected for discovery should be motivated by current, relevant questions that advance our understanding of planet surface dynamics and evolution.
