About This Opportunity

The Arts Grants for Ethnic Communities fund is designed to harness creativity to promote social cohesion and culture within communities located in the Western Bay of Plenty district in New Zealand. The fund encourages inclusive creativity through cultural celebrations and engagement, supporting ethnic communities to feel connected and providing opportunities to participate in society. Ethnic communities include migrants, former refugees, long-term settlers, and multi-generational New Zealanders who identify as African, Asian, continental European, Latin American, and Middle Eastern. The fund supports projects that celebrate cultural arts such as drama, visual or object art, music, dance, performance, creative writing, and photography, and must engage the community. Examples of projects include social inclusion programmes, celebration of religious festivals, national or remembrance days, and events showcasing cultural performances, art, drama, language, or food. Projects must demonstrate impact within the Western Bay of Plenty district boundary and must be open to the wider community where appropriate. Applications are capped at a maximum of $2,000 per project. Both for-profit and not-for-profit organisations can apply, though submissions will not be considered from organisations intending to make a profit from the activity applied for. The project must have a defined start and finish date and cannot have started or finished when funding applications are submitted. The fund is administered by Creative Bay of Plenty on behalf of the Western Bay of Plenty District Council.
