About This Opportunity

The Ash Music Scholarships provide free instrumental tuition at the Royal College of Music for talented music students attending Imperial College London. Named after Professor Sir Eric Ash FRS, former Rector of Imperial College (1986-1993), these prestigious awards recognize outstanding musical achievement. Five scholarships are available each year to undergraduate students who demonstrate exceptional musical ability, with evidence of ABRSM Grade 8 distinction or equivalent. The scholarships are tenable for three years of a first undergraduate course, and in exceptional circumstances may be extended beyond three years. Each year the top scholar receives the Coldstream Guards' Scholarship, which includes an additional £100 per year. Scholars arrange lessons with their Royal College of Music professor to fit their academic timetable and are expected to actively participate in Imperial College's musical life through ensembles such as the Imperial College Symphony Orchestra or one of Imperial's choirs. The program provides extensive performance opportunities and professional musical development alongside academic study.
