About this opportunity
This PhD studentship is based jointly at the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy (MSM), University of Cambridge, and the new AstraZeneca Discovery Centre at Cambridge. The studentship provides full funding for 4 years starting from October 1st 2026, covering a personal maintenance stipend starting at £21,500 per annum as well as the University Composition Fee. The research project focuses on the application of electron crystallography techniques to study solid-state transitions of chiral drugs, under the supervision of Prof Paul Midgley (University of Cambridge) and Dr Okky Putra (AstraZeneca). The program seeks a highly motivated individual capable of thinking and working independently, with a strong background in relevant disciplines such as Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, or Chemical Engineering. The studentship offers the opportunity to acquire cutting-edge research methodologies in a supportive environment that emphasizes teamwork and internationally leading research.
