About This Opportunity

The Athol Mann Scholarship for Vocal Students was established in 2018 with a generous bequest from the late Athol Mann in acknowledgment of his passion for Opera and commitment to students of classical voice. This scholarship supports students majoring in Classical Voice at the New Zealand School of Music at Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington. It is specifically awarded to assist students in preparation for their audition tour. The scholarship is open to current students enrolled full-time and majoring in Classical Voice who are intending to enrol full-time in their Honours year in the year following application. Preference is given to postgraduate students, however undergraduate students may also apply. Selection is based on academic merit and requires submission of a personal statement, tour plan, and budget. Recipients are expected to write a letter of appreciation to the family of Athol Mann, provide a report at the end of the scholarship tenure detailing how funds were used, and demonstrate engagement with the New Zealand School of Music community through participation in ensembles, presentations, or performances.
