About This Opportunity

The Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) offers scholarships for the 2026 academic year in remembrance of Ken Foster, the first Director of the ATU Canadian Council. Ken Foster served as a trailblazer for transit workers across Canada, beginning his career as a Bus Operator in 1974 and eventually becoming the first General Executive Secretary and later Director of the ATU Canadian Council, serving until his retirement in 2006. He was a voice for members on legislation, policy, education, health and safety, labor, and other issues, and was inducted into the CUTA Hall of Fame. The scholarship program consists of five scholarships each in the amount of $8,000.00, with an additional $2,000.00 scholarship available specifically for technical or vocational school applicants. The ATU hopes that recipients will use these scholarships in part to study union and community organizing and grow to fight injustices everywhere. These scholarships are offered to members of the Amalgamated Transit Union and their families.
