About this opportunity

The Barbara Finlayson Scholarship is awarded annually to New Zealand School of Music (NZSM) violin, viola, and violoncello students enrolling in their first year of study with NZSM. The scholarship aims to support students in their first year of university and is available to both domestic and international students. Established through the Victoria University of Wellington Foundation from a generous bequest made by Barbara Finlayson, the first awards were made at the end of 1997 to postgraduate students. Recipients are expected to demonstrate engagement and contribute to the community and environment of the New Zealand School of Music through participation in ensembles, presentations, or performances at NZSM or university events. The scholarship will be paid as a monthly stipend in the recipient's first year of study, subject to confirmation of and continued enrolment. Recipients must write a letter of thanks to the donor of this scholarship and may be asked to participate in appropriate events or marketing as ambassadors for the university.
