About this opportunity
The Baron Pound Award is presented to a graduating student in Veterinary Medicine who has demonstrated extraordinary compassion, outstanding communication skills, and deep respect for the human-companion animal bond while caring for a critically ill animal. This award was initiated by Brian Sherry Pound in memory of their beloved companion, Baron, who was diagnosed with lymphosarcoma and received care at the Atlantic Veterinary College's Veterinary Teaching Hospital. The award recognizes the exceptional care and compassion that veterinary students provide to both animals and their families during difficult times. The Pound family established this award to honor the caring staff who provided loving care to Baron and daily updates to the family, which continues to be a source of comfort. The award specifically celebrates students who exemplify the values of compassion, communication excellence, and respect for the human-animal bond that are central to veterinary medicine.
