About this opportunity
The Catholic Community Foundation of Southwest Florida is proudly offering the Barry L. Carey, M.D. Scholarship, an academic scholarship made possible through the Catholic Legacy of Dr. Barry Carey and his loving family. Through the Carey's generous gift to the Foundation, one renewable scholarship of approximately $400 will be available to a graduating senior from a Catholic school, private school, home school, or public school in the Diocese of Venice Counties who will be a first generation in their family to attend college or university. Eligible counties include Sarasota, Charlotte, Lee, DeSoto, Glades, Hardee, Hendry, Highlands, Manatee and Collier Counties. The scholarship can be used for tuition, books, fees and housing expenses. This merit and need-based scholarship supports students who are first-generation college students and demonstrate strong academic performance, involvement in extracurricular activities including volunteering, work, clubs, and teams, and have a meaningful connection to their Catholic Faith. The scholarship may be renewed for up to four academic years by completing an annual online renewal application, with eligibility based on the student maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 unweighted scale.
