About this opportunity
The B.C. Loan Forgiveness Program is designed to support recent graduates in select in-demand occupations by forgiving their B.C. student loans. Participants must agree to work at publicly-funded facilities in underserved communities in British Columbia or work with children in occupations where there is an identified shortage in B.C. If qualified, the Province of British Columbia will forgive the outstanding B.C. portion of Canada-B.C. integrated student loan debt at a rate of up to a maximum of 20% per year for up to five years. If participants complete five years of employment, all or a percentage of their B.C. student loan debt will be forgiven. Eligible occupations in underserved communities include nursing, physicians, midwifery, medical laboratory technologist, diagnostic medical sonographer, speech language pathologist, audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, respiratory therapist, polysomnographer, and radiation therapist. Eligible occupations working with children throughout B.C. include speech language pathologist, occupational therapist, audiologist, physiotherapist, school psychologist, technology educator, and teacher of the deaf/hard of hearing or visually impaired. The program requires participants to demonstrate a minimum number of in-person hours of service in an eligible occupation. Annual benefits are prorated based on hours worked: 400+ hours earns 20% forgiveness, 250-399 hours earns 15%, 100-249 hours earns 10%, and under 100 hours earns 0%.
