BELCO's Annual Kite Safety Poster Competition

The Bermuda Electric Light Company Limited (BELCO) hosts an annual Kite Safety Poster Competition designed to engage young students in promoting safety around power lines during Bermuda's traditional kite-flying season. The competition is open exclusively to Primary 1 and Primary 2 students, with one entry permitted per child. This educational initiative aims to raise awareness about the dangers of flying kites near power lines, which can cause power outages and pose serious safety risks to the public. Participants must create their posters on 8.5" x 11" paper and submit them either electronically (photographed or scanned and emailed) or physically delivered to BELCO's headquarters on Serpentine Road in Pembroke. The competition offers multiple award categories including Best Overall Poster, Best Kite Safety Message, TD&R Choice Award, Most Beautiful, Most Original, Best Use of Mixed Media, and Honourable Mention. Prizes range from $50 to $200 in toy vouchers and BELCO gift cards, with the top prize being a $200 toy voucher and $200 BELCO gift card. The competition serves a dual purpose of showcasing children's creativity while educating the community about electrical safety during Easter season when kite flying is at its peak in Bermuda.
