About this opportunity

The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship is a U.S. Department of State program that supports students with high financial need to study abroad. It is a competitive award for U.S. citizens and nationals who receive a Federal Pell grant as part of their financial aid package. The scholarship provides awards up to $5,000 to study abroad for a semester or summer. An additional $3,000 Critical Need Language Award is available for students studying high-demand languages in non-traditional locations. Applicants who are conducting STEM-related research as part of their study abroad or international internship program can apply for a STEM supplemental award of up to $1,000. Child and spousal dependents of active or activated United States military personnel who receive any type of Title IV federal financial aid during the time of application are eligible for the Gilman-McCain Scholarship for a $5,000 scholarship award. Temple University offers an additional Apply-to-Gilman Guarantee program where students who attend Gilman Advising Day and submit a certified application receive an Education Abroad scholarship of at least $500 toward their study abroad program.
