Betty Lou Balasi Scholarship

The Betty Lou Balasi Scholarship is awarded to juniors, seniors, and graduate students majoring in Communication Studies at Eastern Illinois University. The scholarship honors Betty Lou Balasi, who served as the Department secretary for 22 years. Recipients must be full-time students in good standing who demonstrate enthusiasm towards the University and the Department of Communication Studies and should be persistent supporters of University and Departmental activities. The scholarship seeks exceptional students who embody qualities that endeared Betty Lou Balasi to students and faculty, including a positive outlook and zest for life, compassion, generosity of spirit, and a genuine interest in and selfless commitment to the success and happiness of students and faculty. Awards are announced in the Spring semester and paid the following Fall semester. Recipients may apply to receive the award again in subsequent years if they continue to meet the eligibility criteria.
