About this opportunity
The Betty Lou Sundermann Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by Marie Rosiak to honor her long-time friend Betty Lou Sundermann. Betty Lou and Marie both attended high school at Schenley High School in Pittsburgh's Hill District, but met some years later while studying at the University of Pittsburgh and became firm friends. Together, they became teachers and mentors to many young people within the Pittsburgh Public School system. Betty Lou taught for 47 years with many of those years at Robert Vann Elementary School.
This scholarship celebrates and commemorates the many lives that Betty Lou touched by providing support to an outstanding student who exemplifies the personal and professional qualities that Betty Lou exhibited. Betty Lou was known for her strong values, dedication to education and her community, and leading by example.
The scholarship is awarded to graduating seniors attending any Pittsburgh Public School who demonstrate financial need and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5. Students must plan to attend an accredited vocational or technical trade school OR 2- or 4-year college or university. Preference will be given to applicants who have been disproportionately affected by systemic barriers to educational achievement.
