BHP Billiton Endowment Fund

The BHP Billiton Endowment Fund was established with funding from BHP Billiton Petroleum Ltd to support projects focused on enhancing or conserving the local physical environment that also benefit the wider community and improve people's lives. The fund has four main priorities: greening urban areas, nature conservation, tackling pollution, and aiding recycling. Priority is given to groups working in disadvantaged areas of the community that show local community involvement. The fund supports environmental projects across Merseyside, including Halton, with grants of up to £2,000. Examples of fundable projects include nature trails, creation of wildlife habitats, tree planting, wetland creation, gardening tools for after-school clubs, community composting schemes, clean-up campaigns, and protection of existing wildlife habitats. Applications are reviewed by Community Foundation staff to check eligibility, and a decision-making panel makes recommendations based on the fund's criteria and available budget.
