About this opportunity
This grant program supports projects working with selected strategies for sustainable urban development, specifically focusing on promoting sustainable water management and safe access to water. The funding aims to contribute to a greener Europe by supporting investments in water services, new technology, and nature-based solutions. Projects must align with one of twelve approved territorial strategies for sustainable urban development within the National Regional Fund Program. The program addresses the urgent need to modernize Sweden's water and sewage systems, which face challenges including maintenance debt, climate change impacts, increased environmental requirements, and population growth. Supported projects can include investments in new technology (such as AI, sensor technology, digital twins for water infrastructure), nature-based solutions (green roofs, rain gardens, urban wetlands), and development of support structures for organizational capacity and better planning for water and sewage systems.
