About this opportunity

The Bilanes-Martinez Memorial Scholarship is awarded to one graduating high school student who demonstrates financial need, service, and leadership through volunteer activities. This scholarship was established by the Bilanes and Martinez family and friends to honor students whose lives have been impacted by cancer. Applicants must be completing their high school diploma in Calgary Board of Education or Calgary Catholic School District schools and must submit an essay of approximately 500 words sharing their story of how cancer has impacted their lives, reflect on their future goals, and explain how volunteerism and leadership have contributed to their future path. To claim the award, recipients must be registered in an eligible program of post-secondary study in Canada of at least two years duration within twenty-four months of notification, which can include vocational, apprenticeship, trades, technical or postsecondary institutions. The selection committee includes a member of the Bilanes or Martinez family, and recipients are selected by September.
