About this opportunity
The Bill Ledwell Alumni Scholarship is awarded to a full-time student in his or her fourth year at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) carrying at least a normal load of five courses per semester and scheduled to graduate the following May. The scholarship is based on both academic performance and financial need. This scholarship was created in honour of Bill Ledwell, a graduate of St. Dunstan's University in 1949, who was an active member of the Alumni Association and instrumental in reactivating reunions of St. Dunstan's graduates in 1984. Bill was best known for his sports column which appeared in The Evening Patriot for 37 years and his writing talents recognized in publications such as Time Magazine, The Toronto Star and Atlantic Insight. He served his community as librarian, newspaper editor, talk show host, teacher, directory of education media, supervisor of the Media Centre and as National Film Board representative. Bill was the first recipient of the UPEI Alumni Association's Distinguished Alumni Award in 1990.
