Blue transformation - coast and sea

Formas is offering funding for research and innovation projects that contribute to a better environment in coastal and marine areas surrounding Sweden. The call aims to support projects with a transformative approach capable of leading to lasting change on a societal scale. Projects should address complex challenges such as eutrophication, emissions and accumulation of hazardous substances, or achieving sustainable fishing. The initiative seeks to strengthen the resilience of marine ecosystems and society while creating opportunities for a sustainable blue economy. Each project must involve active participation of societal actors needed to address the issues and reverse negative trends. Projects are expected to be carried out in collaboration between researchers and relevant societal actors, including public organizations, companies, and civil society organizations. The knowledge, solutions and measures developed should benefit industry, civil society, public authorities and political decision-makers. Projects should generate knowledge contributing to both concrete measures and technical solutions as well as changes at the societal level, including new policy instruments, management and business models, and changes in behavior, culture and norms.
