About this opportunity
The Bob Hawke Aboriginal Teacher Scholarship is offered by the Department of Education to support aspiring Aboriginal secondary teachers to complete undergraduate or postgraduate teaching qualifications on a full-time or part-time basis. The scholarship is named in honour of Bob Hawke's lifelong support of Indigenous rights and his vision of a fair and inclusive Australia. The Department of Education is committed to creating culturally responsive environments that build on the strength of Aboriginal students, engage them in learning and enable them to thrive academically and socially. A key part of achieving this is increasing the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people teaching in secondary schools. The scholarship provides financial support to complete either a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) or Master of Teaching (Secondary) at a recognized Australian tertiary institution, with an additional appointment allowance available for recipients who commence employment as a teacher in a Western Australian public school within 12 months of completing their qualification.
