About this opportunity
The Brenda and Charles Muller Scholarship honors Brenda Muller, an avid reader who spent the last seven years of her career with the State of Ohio in the Department of Education, and Charles Muller, a scholarship recipient himself whose studies of America's material culture were enabled through library resources. This scholarship supports students pursuing graduate studies in library and information science, recognizing that libraries are the keepers of history, the preservers of culture and the gateway to the pursuit of intellectual curiosity.
The scholarship provides $3,000 in total funding, distributed as $1,000 per year over three years to support students pursuing a Master's of Library Science (MLS) or Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) at an ALA-accredited university, either full-time or part-time. The program particularly values the role of libraries in preserving cultural heritage and enabling educational access.
Preference is given to students who are graduates of Canal Winchester School District, Teays Valley Local School District, and Groveport Madison Schools, followed by central Ohio residents, then Ohio state residents. Additional preferences are given to students attending Kent State University, students from military families, and those with paid or volunteer library experience. The scholarship is managed by The Columbus Foundation and uses their universal application system.
